James Farah

James Farah’s path to interior design began with a long-standing passion for creativity and the encouragement of his parents. After graduating from high school, he began working full time as a barista while trying to determine when and where he wanted to continue his education. That direction became clear when he discovered HSID Dallas.

The school’s focused approach to design education immediately appealed to James. He was drawn to the opportunity to gain practical experience, build industry connections, and develop professional skills through an intensive program centered on the realities of working in interior design.

"I had no idea when or where I was going to attend school until I came across an HSID Dallas ad and knew it was perfect."

During his time at HSID Dallas, James completed both the Fundamentals of Interior Design Certificate and the Master’s Certificate in Interior Design. The experience challenged him, strengthened his confidence, and allowed him to form meaningful friendships while developing his creative and technical abilities.

His first design project remains one of his favorite memories. The excitement and nervousness of creating that first project gave him an early glimpse into his future career. Looking back, he can see how quickly his ideas, skills, and understanding of the design process began to develop.

Fundamentals with Joan was especially meaningful to James. The class gave him his first real sense of what a career in interior design could look like. Through AutoCAD and hands-on design work, he became more comfortable combining design elements, responding to different styles, and making decisions with the client in mind.

James credits the program with helping him understand the complete design process—from developing an initial idea and serving the client to carrying a project through efficiently from beginning to end. That preparation helped him move from the classroom into the professional design industry.

After graduating from HSID Dallas in June 2025, James began working as an Associate Designer at BGI Design. Starting his dream career at just 20 years old remains one of his proudest accomplishments.

Working in a professional design firm has helped James continue to build confidence, find his voice as a designer, and apply what he learned at HSID Dallas. Although he is most passionate about residential design, his education also gave him a valuable understanding of the work involved in commercial projects.

Looking ahead, James hopes to continue doing what he loves, expand his abilities across every area of design, and take on greater responsibilities as his career develops.
